[English Version]  In Spain, since early 2008 they began to know and see the first signs of the current economic situation, a situation that is difficult for some, for others it lasts, and others (many) has proved to be a complete disaster.
And during this time, I've been hearing, reading and analyzing the characteristics and technology needs of businesses of friends and acquaintances in the town where I live, just outside Madrid.
After carrying more than twelve years working in the market for MPS (Managed Print Solutions), it is not uncommon to find many companies that need help and advice when deciding on a certain type of technology infrastructure especially around printers, multifunctional systems document management. This shows that small and medium enterprises remain an undervalued market by MPS providers, where historically, always been used, when defining products and services, those who work and have given previous results in a model large accounts and large projects.
The printing infrastructure of a company, any company, represents a large part of the minimum requirements to conduct business, this means that printers and MFPs are a major expense when getting started, and an expense perhaps greater maintenance. And especially considering that much control the use made of the printers, since otherwise spending triggers and how to solve complicated.
The current economic situation has forced many small businesses to look for every dollar you spend and every dollar they invest in to help survive the crisis. Yet still there are many companies that ignore the potential for cost control and managed print solutions to significantly reduce costs and improve the effectiveness of their print infrastructure.
In the past, MPS solutions were focused on large companies that allow business margins to justify the investment in devices and project. However today, are appearing a number of software and management solutions, from independent companies that cater to the needs of small businesses where margins are much tighter making possible benefits, although not as striking as in large enterprises can reduce the cost and improve the use of printers.
In order to implement these solutions in small business, you have to understand from the base needs and special conditions of each sector, each market and almost every company, which for device manufacturers, yet expensive is performed and little effective.

SAA is the first university in Indiana to implement mobile printing solution Pharos. Students have access to mobile printing from this autumn.

"This new service shows that the ISU is a progressive university, far-sighted," said Yancy Phillips, director of user services of the Office of Information Technology. "The technology that students receive in our institution will prepare them for what they will experience once they graduate."

To print any of the 26-enabled printers on campus, the student can send an email with the attachment to the direction of mobile printing. After swiping your ID card in the printer, students can select documents to print immediately. Instead of having access to a PC for printing documents, you will be able to print from their own mobile devices without any device drivers or installation delay.

"Students can print from any mobile device on or off campus, safe on any printer provided in the ISU campus," "And it is worth mentioning that are among the first in your state that offers mobile printing technology Pharos. "

Cloud Based Service

Puntos positivos y negativos del Cloud Based Service

[English Version]   Currently it is not necessary to be a guru of the telecommunications market to see that mobile devices have become the preferred tool for everyone (especially businesses) to stay connected, work remotely and use for daily tasks.
And one of the aspects that companies continually face is the need to print documents from smartphones or tablet devices trying to understand and visualize all the options and ways that technology can offer. Since there is no single standard for connecting a phone to a printer there are several methods that must be addressed from different perspectives.
Initially, the two basic and most common methods are called "Cloud Based Services" and "Direct Print Services".
Cloud Based Service
In this solution, there is a server to manage and accept the print job sent from the mobile device. This server is usually located on the Internet, but can be inside the corporate network and accessible from the Internet. When you receive a job, the server stores the job and the printer connects directly or through a specific software.
To send the document, there are two ways to launch the document to print from your mobile device:
  • Email: The email system allows any phone that can send mail, print the document or attachments that are allowed in the print server. The user only has to send an email to a specific email address for the printer. This method is the simplest to implement but can not control other aspects of the printing process (copies, double-page, color ...).
  • Application: the method of application consists of a dedicated application installed on each mobile device that lets the user select a document to print, select the printer and print options available. This provides greater security, control and flexibility but also involves a development normally tailored to the needs and limitations of mobile phone models.
To print the document after saving the document to print on the server (sent by the user), there are two ways to print the document:
  • Push: the method "Push" is executed when the print server (cloud) receives the document and sends it directly to the print queue that the printer receives and prints immediately.
  • Pull: the method "Pull" requires software on the corporate network to check the document for printing and their properties, accept impression but holding down the document until the user requests the appropriate printer ultimately printing the document.
Positives and negatives of Cloud Based Service
Positive: Allows printing from mobile devices from outside the corporate network printers within the corporate network.Positive: You can print on more models of printers as it goes through a print server cloud.Negative: The implementation becomes more complex and requires separate software components that also needs to be managed separately.Negative: When using a public network in the cloud, the document goes through a print server from a third party, and that has implications for security and data privacy.

Direct Print Services
Such solutions also called "Point to Point" means the mobile device directly to the printer prints. These products typically have limited use because it does not print drivers and are based on basic functionality and printing standard, which greatly reduces their utility.
To send and print the document, usually involves the development of a customized application or use a particular print functionality of a mobile operating system that will extract the document to print, the printer, and finally sending the document. The wireless device connects directly to the printer through the corporate network and running the printing of the document.
Positive and negative points of Direct Print ServicesPositive: easy to implement.Positive: easy to handle by the user, minimal training time.Positive: Many solutions are free or very low cost.Negative: Many solutions have less functionality than even the printer itself has.Negative: some solutions require the printer to support its own system, which reduces the options market.Negative: usually requires the user sending the document and the printer is in the same corporate network.
