empresas) para mantenerse conectados, trabajar a distancia y usarlos
para tareas diarias.
Y uno de los aspectos a los que se enfrentan continuamente las empresas es la necesidad de imprimir documentos desde dispositivos smartphones o tablets tratando de comprender y visualizar todas las opciones y formas que esta tecnología puede ofrecer. Ya que no existe un estándar único para conectar un móvil a una impresora existen varios métodos que deben ser abordados desde diferentes perspectivas.
Y uno de los aspectos a los que se enfrentan continuamente las empresas es la necesidad de imprimir documentos desde dispositivos smartphones o tablets tratando de comprender y visualizar todas las opciones y formas que esta tecnología puede ofrecer. Ya que no existe un estándar único para conectar un móvil a una impresora existen varios métodos que deben ser abordados desde diferentes perspectivas.
Inicialmente, los dos métodos básicos y más comunes son los llamados "Cloud Based Services" y "Direct Print Services".

En
esta solución, hay un servidor que debe gestionar y aceptar el trabajo
de impresión enviado desde el dispositivo móvil. Este servidor se
ubica normalmente en internet, aunque también puede estar dentro de la
red de la empresa y accesible desde internet. Cuando recibe un trabajo,
el servidor almacena el trabajo y conecta con la impresora directamente o
mediante un software especifico.
Para enviar el documento, existen dos métodos para lanzar el documento a imprimir desde el dispositivo móvil:
- Email: el sistema de correo electrónico permite a cualquier móvil que pueda enviar correos, imprimir el documento o ficheros adjuntos que esté permitidos en el servidor de impresión. El usuario solo tiene que enviar un correo a una dirección de correo específica para la impresora. Este método es el más sencillo de implantar pero no permite controlar otros aspectos del proceso de impresión (copias, doble página, color...).
- Aplicación: el método de la aplicación consiste en una aplicación instalada y dedicada en cada dispositivo móvil que permite al usuario seleccionar un documento a imprimir, seleccionar la impresora y las opciones de impresión disponibles. Esto ofrece mayor seguridad, control y flexibilidad pero también implica un desarrollo normalmente a medida de las necesidades y las limitaciones propias de los modelos de móviles.
Para imprimir el documento, una vez almacenado el documento a imprimir en el servidor (enviado por el usuario), hay dos formas de imprimir el documento:
- Push: el método "Push" se ejecuta cuando el servidor de impresión (cloud) recibe el documento y lo envía directamente a la cola de impresión que la recibe la impresora y lo imprime inmediatamente.
- Pull: el método "Pull" requiere de un software en la red corporativa que revisa el documento a imprimir y sus propiedades, acepta la impresión pero mantiene retenido el documento hasta que el usuario solicita en la impresora adecuada la impresión finalmente del documento.
Puntos positivos y negativos del Cloud Based Service
Positivo: Permite imprimir desde dispositivos móviles desde fuera de la red corporativa en impresoras dentro de la red corporativa.
Positivo: Permite imprimir en más modelos de impresoras ya que pasa por un servidor de impresión cloud.
Negativo: La implantación se hace más compleja y requiere de piezas de software separadas que requiere también ser gestionadas aparte.
Negativo: Cuando se utiliza una red pública en la nube, el documento a imprimir pasa por un servidor de un tercero, y eso tiene implicaciones de seguridad y privacidad de datos.
Direct Print Services
Este tipo de soluciones también llamadas "Punto a Punto" significa que el dispositivo móvil imprime directamente en la impresora. Estos productos normalmente tienen limitaciones ya que no usan controladores de impresión y se basan en funcionalidades básicas y estándar de impresión, lo cual reduce mucho su utilidad.
Para enviar e imprimir el documento, normalmente implica el desarrollo de una aplicación a medida o explotar una funcionalidad de impresión concreta de un sistema operativo móvil que permita seleccionar el documento a imprimir, la impresora adecuada y el envío finalmente del documento. El dispositivo móvil conecta directamente con la impresora por la red corporativa y ejecuta la impresión directa del documento.

Negativo: algunas soluciones requieren que la impresora soporte su sistema propio, lo cual reduce el mercado de opciones.
Negativo: normalmente requiere que el usuario que envía el documento y la impresora se encuentre en la misma red corporativa.
